I hope that you enjoy the work to come! This blog will feature not only my projects, but also my reviews of and lessons learned from other designers and artists. Thank you for stopping by!
I'm sorry - on Sunday I posted my comments on my blog by mistake so I'm attaching them here.
COMMENTS ABOUT THE BLOG I really liked how clean and simple Alicia's blog is. It is easy to read her content and there is nothing competing with her images. Her narrative is written in a very personal style and this draws the reader in to feel a connection with her and ultimately, to root for her. The images are a nice size and very easy to follow; in each of her entries she shows a nice progression of her work that flows well. The large titles make the subject matter very clear and she chose to keep the other information ("About Me") at the bottom which is a nice way of keeping it subtle.
It would be great to see her name in a prominent place perhaps at the top of her blog. Putting some kind of image such as her picture or a little design element might help draw a visual parallel with her familiar style. I would like to be more personal so she has inspired me to think about that!
Alicia's writing is very concise without being too brief. It seems like just enough information to get her point across which is ideal. Her images seem to be of good quality and she did a good job of selecting just the right ones that help convey her design process. Most seem to be "portfolio worthy" although a couple of the sketches were very rough. I did notice a couple of missing words or extra words so one more proofread would probably help eliminate these. Overall, her blog communicates her message very clearly both verbally and visually.
PROJECTS Alicia's postcard was really inventive and the colors were very balanced across her composition. Her sketches convey how she is thinking and it is clear she is learning and responding to critiques and challenging herself. This was evident in the 11x17 poster which had a well arranged collage with interesting diagonals and her pop of color made the actual card and writing stand out to draw attention to it. It evoked the emotion she was attempting for when people write personal thank you notes.
Alicia's project is coming along like the rest of us, slow but steady progress. She is again introducing innovative ideas and it will be interesting to see the final product and how these are displayed as multiples. It's nice to see that she's open about the struggles, we can all relate to that! She keeps pressing on so her determination is staying high which is really great. Her photos continue to be good - my hands are so shaky that they are blurry so I like to see her nice photographs.
Alicia's study model was really well constructed - it definitely got the major design points across. The multi-access points make this truly a 360 degree experience and the drawers mimic the original design which was clever. I agree that space between would make the display more dramatic. As always, her sketches are really a great first step towards making the design more realistic - I can learn from that because I tend to go to the 3D to think but she does a great job of thinking in 2D which is more efficient.
I'm looking forward to seeing the museum board with gold paper - I think it will be very eye catching to potential consumers and elevates the cards to a sense of luxury. She seems to be well on task and I can't wait to see the final product!
